A masterpiece of Willy Tsao, China Wind, China Fire has been highly acclaimed in various festivals in Korea, Taiwan, Israel and Germany. It was invited to tour in 13 cities in Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland in 2002.

Program 2:

NINE SONGS

Choreographer: Helen Lai
Costume Designers: Tim Yip (Oscar Winner)
Music: Tan Dun (Oscar Winner)
Original Lighting Designer: Leo Cheung

A contemporary ritual of sound, movement, shape and color, exploring the endless longing between nature and human beings Hong Kong's internationally renowned choreographer Helen Lai teams up with Oscar winners Tan Dun (Best Music Score) and Tim Yip (Best Art Direction) in an exciting blend of breath-taking spectacle and the power of ritual. Inspired by poems of the great Chinese poet Qu Yuan, Nine Songs evokes the legends of the 3rd century BC in contemporary form, fusing the especially composed score with images of nature and emotions. Behind the whole hang the ancient spirits of sky, rivers and mountains, the spirits of the dead and the unquenchable hopes of the living. Since its premiere in 1991, Nine Songs has toured Beijing, London's West End and the Lyon Biennale to critical acclaim. This is a brand new version especially revised in 2002. Not to be missed.
