Pál Frenák was born in Budapest in 1957. Being raised by deaf-mute parents was a strong formative experience of his childhood. His primary means of expression was thus sign language, which has made him susceptible to nonverbal communication - facial expressions, gestures and using one´s body for conveying ideas. In search of new vistas, he moved to Paris in the mid 1980’s, where he cooperated with several renowned personalities from the field of classical ballet and studied the dance techniques of Cunningham and Limón. Pál Frenák returned to Hungary in 1999 and established his own French-Hungarian ensemble Compagnie Pál Frenák. Pál uses a variety of classical and modern techniques in his works and he is characteristic of his unique style and dance language. One of his most significant features is the use of facial expressions, sign language and body movements to express various genres (circus, theatre, fashion show). Besides his creative work as a choreographer, Pál regularly gives lessons in professional workshops, organizes charitable performances with the aim of initiating school children into the world of dance and participates actively in meetings with the public and the spectators.
