Jaro Viňarský (SK/CZ)

(*13.8.1978, Vranov nad Topľou)

I consider the presence of dance and a deep relationship with human creativity to be an existential fact in my life. I've been dancing since I was five years old, and professionally for the last 25... I see physicality as an inevitable prerequisite for human consciousness, from which a person's ability to think and create is born."

Jaro is a dancer, choreographer and performer. He studied ballet and dance choreography at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU) and the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU). He is the recipient of many awards, including the SAZKA AWARD for „discovery in dance", the Audience Award at the Czech Dance Platform, and the prestigious THE BESSIES NEW YORK DANCE AND PERFORMING ARTS AWARD in the „outstanding performer" category.

In addition to his award-winning performances, he is also well known for his collaborations, for example with the Belgian choreographer Karine Ponties or the Czech director Petra Tejnorová. In 2011, he founded the SKOK! civic association in Slovakia aimed at promoting Slovak contemporary dance and making it accessible to the general public in the form of lectures, workshops and other activities.
